Chico Man Arrested in Connection with Shooting at Bonfire in Magalia
MAGALIA, CA — “On November 15, 2025, at approximately 2:48 a.m., Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies were dispatched to the area of Desabla Power House Road in Magalia, regarding a report of a shooting. A witness reported that she was at a bonfire with a large group when a male began shooting. The witness stated that a juvenile had been shot.
Deputies responded to the scene and immediately began conducting an investigation, with detectives called to assist. Detectives determined approximately 60 individuals had been at the bonfire when the shooting occurred. Through interviews with witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, detectives identified Justin Lister, age 20, of Chico, as a suspect. Detectives located evidence that gave them cause to believe Lister discharged a firearm multiple times, with one of the bullets striking the leg of a juvenile victim. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital, treated, and has since been discharged.
During the investigation, detectives confirmed that Lister is on active felony probation and resides on Tara Terrace Drive in Chico. After reviewing the case with the Butte County District Attorney’s Office, detectives obtained a search warrant for Lister’s residence and an arrest warrant for felony violations of the California Penal Code, including discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
On the evening of November 15, detectives contacted Lister in Chico and placed him under arrest. Detectives then served the search warrant at Lister’s residence, where they located additional evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at (530) 538-7671.”
