Woodland Police have announced the arrests of two people on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a reported shoot-out took place on Pacific Street back in September.

On Saturday, September 21, officers responded to the 800 block of Pacific Street and found evidence consistent with the scene of a shooting. Minutes later, someone checked themselves into the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Multiple investigative divisions assumed the investigation, gathering witness statements and video evidence that revealed two individuals had been involved in a shoot-out.

The individual who’d been shot had been an unwilling participant.

Over the next few months, investigators worked diligently to identify the two suspects, ultimately landing on 34-year-old Francisco Zapien of Woodland and 23-year-old Antonio Godinez of Knights Landing.

One of them was arrested during a vehicle stop, and the other was already in custody on an unrelated robbery charge.

Both are expected to be formally charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting.
