Irvine Murder-Suicide: Man Allegedly Threw Mother from Building, Then Jumped to His Own Death
Police recently opened an investigation into a suspected murder-suicide at the UC Irvine campus.
In a media release via Facebook on December 14, Irvine PD announced that they’d opened an investigation into the deaths of 77-year-old Thao Thai Nguyen and her son, Andrew Nguyen Doan (36).
Thao Thai Nguyen’s body was reportedly found on the UC Irvine campus on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 13. Doan’s body was also found, and he appeared to have died by “external trauma,” the Monterey Herald reported.
Investigators determined that Doan had thrown his mother off the landing of a multi-story building to hear death, and then jumped himself.
Doan was reportedly a former student at UC Irvine and was known to have struggled with mental health.
The most recent Irvine PD service call involving Doan was for a mental health incident in 2019, which was also his final year on record enrolled at the university, police said.
