April 4, 2020 – Ventura County – While California law permits the personal recreational use of cannabis products, based upon the March 29th arrest of Moorpark resident Gabriel Marrache, it might not be a wonderful idea to chill out and puff on a doobie in full view of John Law.

But when Marrache parked his car on a quiet Moorpark neighborhood cul-de-sac and lit one up in broad daylight, witnesses made what Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Steve Donion described as “a call for service of a suspicious vehicle” parked in front of their house.

Responding deputies found Marrache seated behind the wheel of his car and detected the unmistakably “strong odor of marijuana” emanating from within the vehicle. While sniffing around, the cops also spotted marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia “in plain view inside the vehicle” which gave them sufficient probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle.

That search lead to the discovering of “a significant quantity of marijuana and cocaine” as well as “a digital scale, small plastic baggies, and cash,” all of which indicated that Marrache was more than a recreational drug user. The further discovery of “over 400 doses of marijuana and 70 doses of cocaine” lead them to suspect Marrache of engaging in active illegal drug sales.

Deputies then seized all the evidence at the scene and transported Marrache to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of possession of cocaine and marijuana for sales, with his bail unspecified at this time.
